Middlesex County is home to a robust agriculture industry that provides foundational support for the local economy. Van Osch Farms, a family-owned beef cattle and cash crop operation that has been nurturing the land and feeding families since 1954, is one of these foundational agricultural businesses.
Van Osch Farms began when Harry and Paula Van Osch immigrated from Holland and settled on 100 acres in North Middlesex. With a vision grounded in hard work and a deep respect for the land, they launched a dairy cattle and cash crop operation. By the early 1970s, the farm transitioned to beef cattle and cash crops, and in 1978, their sons Gerald and Fred officially incorporated the business.
Now in its third generation, Kurtis, Jaron, and Brendon are at the helm. Together, they manage a full-circle operation, while implementing forward-thinking practices to keep the farm sustainable and efficient. With 15 full-time employees, many local and some with decades of service, Van Osch Farms plays a vital role in the regional economy.
That focus has led to Van Osch Farms earning certification as a Sustainable Beef Cattle Farm through the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef. Their practices prioritize animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and long-term soil health. The farm also maintains many species of local wildlife that call their land home, proof of their commitment to a balanced ecosystem.
That community connection recently grew stronger with the Grand Opening of the Van Osch Farm Store in Ailsa Craig on May 24, 2025. The store offers their premium beef alongside other Ontario-made products, making it easier for families to support local. The celebration featured live music from the Scott Howarth Band, local vendors, games, and giveaways, drawing a big crowd in support of local agriculture.
